SQL Developer 3.0 (3.0.04.34) Connection menu is missing

Posted by Jay on September 25, 2011

Yesterday we have copied sql developer folder 3.0 (3.0.04.34) to a machine as a zip file. After unzipping and starting the sqldeveloper we could not see the connection menu but it was working fine in the machine from where the software was copied.

After some search we could find the cause for the issue from an otn forum and MOS # 783508.1, the steps to resolve the same is as follows.

Option 1:

1. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\<your profile>\Application Data\SQL Developer

2. Save your connection folder o.jdeveloper.db.connection.11.1.1.0.xx.xx.xx

3. Delete the C:\Documents and Settings\<your profile>\Application Data\SQL Developer

4. Restart SQL developer, will recreate the same directory structure.

5. Exit SQL developer

6. Copy the backup “o.jdeveloper.db.connection.11.1.1.0.xx.xx.xx” to
C:\Documents and Settings\<your profile>\Application Data\SQL Developer

7. We should be able to see the connection tab

Option 2:

1. Start SQL Developer.

2. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\<your user>\Application Data\SQLDeveloper\system<your build number>\o.ide.11.1.1.0.xx.xx.xx

3. Locate the windowinglayout.xml file in this directory.  This file will not be there unless you have started SQL Developer first.

4. Shutdown SQL Developer.

5. Delete the windowinglayout.xml file. (Once you restart Sql Developer a new windowinglayout.xml file will be created.)

6. Restart SQL Developer.

7. We should be able to see the connection tab

How to create a patch search only function for OAM without using SYSADMIN user?

Posted by Jay on September 8, 2011

The OAM_ADMIN_MENU menu contains submenus that are categorized based on different functional areas in OAM (e.g. patching and utilities, workflow, etc).
So one way to provide access to a subset of OAM pages could be based on these submenus.

For example in order to provide access to only the Patching related pages, we could do the following:

1. Create a custom menu e.g. “OAM Patching and Utilities Menu”.

2. Under this menu, assign the following:

- submenu – “Patching and Utilities:All Functions” (this is a submenu from under OAM_ADMIN_MENU)
- function – “Search Patches” (this is function to the search patches page).

3. Also provide a prompt for this function that will appear in the navigator (e.g.”Patching and Utilities”).

4. Register the Menu as a “System Administration Self Service Web Applications” Menu with the resonsibility this is added to.

5. Run the Compile Security concurrent program

6. Now we can do one of the following:

- If we already have a responsibility (other than system administration) that needs patch only access, assign the custom menu “OAM Patching and Utilities Menu” to the root menu of this responsibility.

- or, we can create a new responsibility and have the custom menu “OAM Patching and Utilities Menu” be the root menu of the new responsibility.

How to troubleshoot problems when logging into the Oracle Applications Manager?

Posted by Jay on September 2, 2011

User is unable to login into the Oracle Applications Manager console from the URL:

<a href=”http://.:/servlets/weboam/oam/oamLogin”>http://<host&gt;.<domain>:<PORT>/servlets/weboam/oam/oamLogin

Being redirected to the E-Business Home Page once user provides USERNAME/PASSWORD and presses [Login] button.

HOW TO DIAGNOSE:

1. Please verify if the  current user has got any of the following:

APP-FND-00500: AFPPRN received a return code of failure from routine FDUPRN

Posted by Jay on August 19, 2011

Concurrent programs errors out with APP-FND-00500 in 11i/R12

Symptom:

APP-FND-00500:  AFPPRN received a return code of failure from routine FDUPRN
Cannot read file <full path>/<filename>.out
Application Object Library encountered an error while reading the file
<filename>.out does not exist on the file system

Cause:

If a report does not produce an output file but the concurrent program definition is set up so that it tries to print anything by default, then an FND-00500 error will occur.

Solution:

This specific error can be ignored, but the more prudent solution is to modify the concurrent program definition in order that it does not try to print anything by default.

1. Log into Applications with the System Administrator responsibility.

2. Navigate to Concurrent/program/define and query up the concurrent  program.

3. In the lower right corner where the output options are listed, clear the  check box next to the word “print”.  Leave the “save” option selected to avoid an APP-00088 when running the program because it was unable to delete the output file which was never created.

4. From the menu bar of this same form, select “Action/Save and Proceed”.
